It's funny. In the latest
article from VNUNET, James Middleton goes on about how the Mac being
a safer platform is a myth. The proof he uses is weak. The fact that there are
over 7,000 macro viruses that will work on the Mac is his only valid point. What he neglects to mention is that there are 38 viruses written for the Mac, and out of which 2 have destructive payloads. The other thing James neglects to mention is that the Macintosh is more secure because it doesn't leave services running on a default installation. With a point like
"Another big problem Mac users don't think about is that they make perfect incubators for Windows viruses." What does that mean? Incubators? Who cares if I'm a Mac user? All I care about is that my system works. If someone forwards me a virus written for windows, I'm going to delete it no matter what, because I can't run it. So, can someone please tell the nice, money grubbing freaks at Symantec that I don't need their firewalls, anti-virus software, or disk file utilities, because if Apple keeps there standards up I probably never will.
