The real threat of infomation warfare

US PoliticsIn the wake of 9/11, people are afraid of terrorism against the US. This terrorism takes forms such as nuclear, “dirty bombs”, chemical and biological weapons, and threats of cyberterrorism. Dirty bombs and biological weapons are detectable and stoppable, but we as a nation know little about the implications of an attack on our physical information infrastructures.

Information warfare or “cyber attacks” have long been believed to only have been carried out over networks or over the internet, but what happens when these attack are physical? If some one physically dismantled the 13 root domain server (the servers that control all the names for websites over the entire globe) would that not produce a devastating effect?

People are afraid of being attacked over the internet, but with a little preventive maintenance 90% of all electronic break-ins can be prevented. The question is how do you stop terrorists from doing damage to physical data systems? You can’t.

See the below link for an complete essay covering all details of the above theory from http://www.cryptogon.com
