Quote from the register -"According to the Xboxhacker posting, there are various modifications which may be cost and reliability related (e.g. the video chip loses the fan, and the DVD Rom has been switched to a Philips. The key change that at least impedes the modders is however that a small chip that used to be behind the onboard bios has been removed. It would seem likely that the bios itself has undergone some modification along with this. We've subsequently been informed that the RC4 keys have been changed, but that it should still be possible to replace the bios via the LPC bus. Which suggests the latest moves are a relatively minor impediment to the current modders."

If you read the entirety of this latest posting you'll see that Microsoft pretty much did exactly what I described in prior posts, they updated the bios and made the system more dependant on it, although I didn't count on Microsoft using cheaper parts to offset the cost of researching mod blocking. Just goes to show that Microsoft is taking a stand concerning piracy, looking back at windows and office xp, they’ve been become very difficult to run if you’re not a legitimate user. Looks like the same goes for the X box. With the big difference being that you already paid to buy the Xbox. In my eye’s you should be able to use it for what ever you see fit, you’re not “renting” the Xbox it's an actual tangible piece of hardware you paid good money for.Why then should Microsoft control what you do with it?
