Intel makes potato chips with Hyper Threads

Today, Intel announced a new version of its 845 chipset that supports a new feature called “Hyper Threading”. According to Intel, hyper threading or HT in Intel speak tricks operating systems into thinking there’s a second processor which provides up to a 30% but often less performance gain on systems and software that support the new feature compared with system that lack HT.

In retrospect, I believe this is just a short cut to temporarily increase the speed of Intel’s latest processors. If Intel worked on developing 128 bit desktop processors instead of these short cuts the P.C industry would see definite swell in sales and the end user would see noticeable improvements.
