Microsoft to build secure copy of trillian

MicrosoftO.K, AOL and Microsoft are both focusing on something that's already available for free, consider the following :

1.) If secure IM is needed, public networks can be utilized using trillian which has an option to encrypt messages over the aim and icq protocol, although trillians encryption algorithm isn't really documented at all, how much encryption is needed for a conversation?

2.) Why pay some one for a service when you can create your own work for next to nothing. With jabber (the IM software)installations on corporate servers be simplistic, their would be no need for public internet access and jabber is open source which mean corporate offices could work on developing a secure versions that include what ever type encryption that's needed.
