So you want a fast system?

Interesting StuffAccording to the charted data in SiSoftware Sandra the fastest of current personal computer is no faster then 7 giga flops. So the question is, how do you increase the speed? You can try and over clock your cpu but you'd be risking damaging parts inside your pc because of heat. So says the guild for over clocking on the Toms Hardware website. So what do you do?

According to an EE Times article dated November 12, 2002, written by Chappell Brown, "Lawrence Livermore National Lab is putting together a supercomputer that will boast nearly the same performance as the ASCII White system from IBM Corp. that the lab now uses but it promises to be 10 times cheaper. Called Evolocity, the system will be the fastest clustered supercomputer in the world, according to Lawrence Livermore." To most people a system this fast would cost millions of dollars, in fact this is only slightly slower to the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory's SP Power3 which according to top500.org is used primarily for energy research. But here's the kicker, according to that same article by Chappel Brown, the new system is made primarily out of everyday PC parts. Brown goes on to say, "Clustered supercomputers using off-the-shelf components have been pursued by smaller research groups. Evolocity shows that major labs can also reap benefits from the approach."

So, how do you pick up one of these ultra fast system? You can get one from linuxnetworx.com. Unfortunately, if you want to know the price, you have to leave contact information so they can call you back.
