Linux will dominate the desktop
James Maguire of www.osOpinion.com has made some excellent points about Linux in his story for NewsFactor.com. In his story, “The Memo That Roared: Microsoft and Open Source”; James makes some tells how Linux will eventually dominate Microsoft. James goes on to talk about Linux’s market share (15%-20%), which is currently smaller then Microsoft’s, but because of cost, inherent reliability and security James doesn’t see that lead lasting too much longer, “…it is likely that Linux will overtake Microsoft in the server OS market in the foreseeable future.” James also goes into how Linux, Lindows in particular is becoming a feasible desktop operating system alternative for the every day joe, in fact Wal-Mart sells a PC from Microtel preloaded with Lindows for a total cost(without monitor) of 199.97$. In his closing James asks “What will happen to Microsoft's market dominance when consumers realize they have dramatically lower-cost options? What's going to happen when these consumers, who are also workers and business owners, bring this knowledge to the lucrative business market? The next few years should be interesting.”Comments and feedback always welcome
