AOL Customer Drop Off – Trouble in Paradise

RantsAccording to Jim Krane, a staff writer for AP Technology wrote and article titled “AOL Reports Its 1st Drop in Subscribers” which was posted on yahoo. According to Krane, “…the online division of AOL Time Warner reported the departure of 170,000 U.S. users in the fourth quarter” and also that in a loss of almost 100 billion dollars for the entire year of 2002. Krane explained that analysts believe the loss is probably being caused by AOL’s slow transition to broadband. The idea of people leaving America online should be refreshing to most non-AOL-users and AOL users alike; as this means that the people leaving AOL will most probably continue using the internet under a different internet service provider. This of course means more money for other providers and better service and support to current AOL users, as AOL will hopefully try and focus on keeping its current customers happy.

To the current users of America Online I ask you this: If your using AOL for more then 4 hours a day that means your tying up your phone, which normally costs most Americans some where around the range of 20 dollars month. If you add the 23.95 dollars a month you’re paying for AOL you get a total dollar amount of 43.95. This means for about the same amount of money you can have high speed internet access via cable, DSL, or satellite. So why are you still paying for a service that charges more for it service then any other provider and is inferior broadband in every way?

Questions and comments always welcome
