In an ironic turn of events, yesterday, March 4th, the makers of the commercial intrusion detection software “SNORT” reported that an unchecked buffer regarding the processing of fragmented RPC data is unchecked. If the buffer is properly overflowed, the snort software would allow a remote attacker the ability to execute code of their choice, allowing the take over of the machine/network the Snort software is supposed to be protecting.
