Kevin Poulsen of SecurityFocus recently wrote an article detailing what Poulsen calls the tuna net that’s catching dolphins. Poulsen states that Direct TV has filed over 9,000 lawsuits against those who have purchased smart card reprogramming equipment from sites that tailor to pirates.
It'll be interesting to see what happens next with the recording industry association of America (RIAA), who recently announced that that their would be sweeping law suits against regular users who share a "substantial” amount of music files. I have the feeling that RIAA won’t be having as easy a time as DirecTV in their attempt to disestablish peer to peer networks.
