An article posted today on The Register says that Israeli Boffins have found a method to crack the GSM code. This code provides privacy to thousands possibly millions of cell phone users in Europe and in the US. This privacy encryption formally made it impossible for woud-be eavesdroppers to listen into conversations until now, or at least thats what this article for the register leads us to believe. The truth is, that in 1999 HackWatch reported it was possible to crack GSM keys in around a second using a PC with 128mb of RAM. Even before 1999 in 1998 Marc Briceno, Ian Goldberg and David Wagner proved it was possible to clone GSM sim cards and emulate them on a PC.
