I\'m fairly sure that, windowsupdate is one of the primary ways microsoft enforces it\'s electronic serial database. Meaning, that if you have a serial number that\'s black listed, they can disable your computer via the windows update site. I don\'t have any actual sources to back this up, but this is what I\'ve heard.
