Below is quote from a story written by Roy Mark for internetnews.com
"Microsoft announced Wednesday it is offering separate $250,000 rewards for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the instigators of the destructive MSBlast and Sobig viruses."
It seems lunatic that Microsoft has setup a five million dollar fund so that co-conspirators of different viruses, worms, and hack job creators will turn in there "first in command". It's laughable to think that it would cost Microsoft much less to extend their beta testing 6 months per project. As a former beta tester for Microsoft I can honestly say they push products to store shelves way before it's ready (Windows ME).
If the Department of Energy allowed a dam to be built that with one good kick in the right place would tumble down and kill thousands of people. One day a terrorist would kick the dam knowing full well the repercussions. Well sure, the terrorist is to blaim for the actual kicking, but in this example the Department of Energy would be responsible for letting it happen.Think about it, don't we put trust in that fact that a simple kick to the face of a dam would be as effective banging your head on the wall?
There's a bigger picture here, why is Microsoft not being held responsible for releasing flawed software? If Microsoft offered any other service people would be lined up for miles wanting their money back because they were sold a product that was broken. So to Microsoft I say this; If you want to spend five million dollars on something spend it on fixing your bloated, flawed, insecure code.
