As you may or may not know, fundamental changes were made to the Microsoft operating system for serivce pack 2. Some of these changes will affect the way your programs access a network, and may seemingly break some network apps. Many already know that sp2 may break some p2p file transfer programs, because of the way TCP connections are now throttled in sp2. Microsoft has also disabled the use of raw sockets and put in place much more stringent guide lines for ARP traffic in effect making ARP spoofing much more difficult. The creators of NMAP report that SP2 has broken the scanning software, but a work around has already been completed.

Microsoft has provided a list of programs that will need to have ports manually opened on a new firewall.

On a side note, Microsoft has published a list (see list here) of bugs fixed in SP2 which is worth taking a look at.

If you're running sp2 and you've found software that will no longer work under sp2 post comments here so we can make a list of incompatible software
