Firefox 1.0 released

SoftwareSo the time here, firefox 1.0 is released and the world rejoices or err huh? The below is a review which may not express the feelings of all but it definatly exresses the feelings of me:

1. Firefox is more secure then internet explorer: Absolutly true, with builtin popup blocking, and a base that's proven much more secure then IE Firefox continues to be a better choice in the realm of security, and others agreed see Scott Granneman colum for security focus.

2. Firefox is more stable then internet explorer. Anouther true, generally speaking in windows explorer, internet explorer and alike are all liked together so if one falls down, they all fall down. This wouldn't be so bad if Exlorer was more stable, but it isn't so we suffer and users of Firefox don't. This wasn't always true, in previous Beta's of firefox the application, like all application had obvious bugs. Now in release 1.0 most of these problems have been taken care of.

3. Firefox is easier to use. Hmmm I'd have to say that is half true. The tabed browsing of Firefox is great it makes browing multiple pages at the same time much easier and this is a feature internet explorer lacks. But in the realm of plugins for flash, shockwave and java Firefox lacks. Upon using a fresh installation of firefox tried to load a flash game from http://www.addictinggames.com/ I was instucted by firefox to "click here" to install the plugin. I tried... many times but "clicking here" just didn't seem to work. So finally firefox gave up and said it failed installing. It instructed me as the user to download and install the plugin manually. I did, and the it worked without issue. This is an improvement over past versions that required registry "Hacks" to make some plugins work but I believe the firefox community could have done a better job here. Is it better then IE? Yes and no, tabed browsing vs not so good plugin support it's really a toss up. The fact is, is that once your plugins are installed you don't have to worry about them any more, so I'll give this one to firefox too.

The bottom line is that Firefox/Firebird/Phoenix is an open source project that's still under development. And even though it's still under development it out performs Internet Explorer by leaps and bounds. Firefox still needs work, but even so it's the opinion of the author that Firefox is far superior.
